Volunteering at The Mountain
The
life and work of The Mountain is enriched by the
cooperation, conversation, and collaboration among
members of The Mountain community - on the worksite,
in the office, and around the table. The Mountain
community includes not only the year-round staff,
but guests and volunteers as well.
Mountain volunteers carry out and sustain our
Mission by serving alongside year-round staff
in areas of critical need. Both long-term and
short-term assignments are available throughout
the year, and room and board are provided.
Volunteer assignments include:
- Maintenance Assistant
— responsible for general repair and
upkeep of facilities and equipment including
groundskeeping, light carpentry and plumbing,
painting, and trash/recycling collection
- Guest Services Assistant
— responsible for housekeeping and meal
preparation and clean-up duties
- Cook — works under
the direction of The Mountain's Food Service
Director, assisting in the preparation of
nutritious meals (food service experience
required)
- Hike Sweep — assists
Hike Leader on organized, group hikes (seasonal
assignment only)
- Shuttle Driver —
responsible for safely transporting Mountain
guests to/from off-site activities and/or
the airport in a 7- or 15- passenger van (subject
to insurance/records check) (only sporadic
need, call for dates)
- Office Assistant —
responsible for greeting and helping guests,
answering the phone, and minding the Mountain
store
- Host - responsible for
greeting guests, driving, room set-ups, social
time, and general "go-fer" and after-hours

duties as well)
